Roses
If emotions are the main course, flowers are the appetisers! Is there anything more pleasing to the eye than a bunch of beautiful multi-hued flowers? While flowers were the accepted form of exchange among people in Persia, it was Charles II of Sweden who introduced this Middle Eastern custom of ‘the language of flowers’ to Europe in the 1700s. The rest, as they say, is history.
Roses, and the red rose in particular, have been an intricate part of all Valentine’s Day celebrations. These gorgeous flowers can be a succour for all those souls who are dumbstruck in the presence of their beloved. Roses silently speak the language of love – a language that is universally understood by all.
The red rose is also said to be the favourite flower of Venus, the goddess of love and beauty. A red rose symbolises passion, a yellow rose indicates friendship, a peach-coloured rose means a desire to know that person better, while a white rose means true love and devotion. So, take your pick!
