Lovebirds and Doves
Lovebirds, those adorable blue-coloured birds, were so nicknamed due to their tendency to sit very close together, the way lovers do. Always in pairs, the remaining half of a pair of lovebirds has been known to perish without the other! Surely, a befitting symbol of Valentine’s Day!
Symbolising peace and love for centuries, doves have an eternal association with Valentine’s Day. Doves are also the traditional symbols of romantic love and loyalty because they are said to mate for life and share equally the task of rearing the young.
The term ‘cooing’ also traces its origins to the manner in which doves ‘communicate’ with each other. That’s why when lovers talk softly to each other, they are said to be ‘cooing’!
